Are you ready to take the financial planning plunge?

Nervous or not sure if you are ready to dive into working with a financial planner? Here are a few things to consider before taking the plunge.

  1. Am I willing to invest a little extra time to get financially organized? Life’s busy for everyone, but it’s important to understand that to have a successful financial plan, there will be a little extra time you have to put in up front having meetings and gathering information. If your schedule just doesn’t allow for it, then it may be better to revisit planning in the future when you have more flexibility in your schedule.

  2. Am I willing to be open and honest with myself and my advisors? It’s not just your advisors you need to be honest with to succeed in financial planning – it's yourself. Financial topics are uncomfortable for a lot of people because they have a hard time admitting their shortcomings to themselves. No judgment here – but you can count us to be honest with you if you’re honest with us and yourself.

  3. Am I ready to act, even if doing so is outside my comfort zone? We can’t emphasize enough that a financial plan is useless without commitment to action. Sometimes, these actions are uncomfortable because they involve new habits you might not be familiar with, such as keeping track of expenses, budgeting, or even just making a phone call to reduce your cable bill.

If you can answer yes to these questions, you might be ready!
